It does take you on different routes than a regular GPS set up for cars.
I was a little cautious about this because of mixed reviews, and beacuse I bought a reconditioned unit. I wanted to wait to make sure it worked well before writing a review. There are reviews saying this is too hard to set up, so they returned it. I think maybe that’s what I got, a returned unit. I did not have any big problem setting it up. I already had a Garmin account from an old GPS, so I was able to log in and transfer all my saved locations into this one easily. One thing you should be aware of, once you set it up for operating an RV, it will put you on the best route for a large vehicle, so if you use it in a regular car with those settings it will not take you the shortest way, it’s trying to keep you out of trouble, which is a good thing. Only thing I don’t like is when I set up the app to link my phone to the GPS it keeps sending phone calls through the GPS instead of through my bluetooth headset. I keep turning that off, but it seems to turn itself back on. I don’t like taking phone calls through the GPS speaker. I think it’s just operator error on my part and I just haven’t figured it out yet,so I’m not taking off any stars for that.

    Garmin has been reliable
Garmin has always been reliable. When I bought an RV, one of my musts was a Garmin GPS. Unfortunately, I bought a regular one that didn’t take into account the size of the RV. So I upgraded to this. It’s a great size, easy to read and so far has been reliable and helpful.

A very good and easy to setup and use navigation system.
A very good and easy to setup and use navigation system. The display is large and easy to see, and the options available ensure navigation according to your vehicle’s size and weight. The unit has voice commands with a voice that is very clear. I particularly like the option that permits display of the route along with upcoming points of interest and other locations. I highly recommend this unit.

    Ripped Off $600.00!
I purchased this for my rv in October. It worked great when purchased. I only tested it for few days. I just tried it this last week . It boots up then turns off. Battery shows empty . I been charging it for last 48 hours . Overtime I turn it on it turns off. I’m now out of approximately $600. 😞

    Good not perfect
Work says it should but my iPhone with Waze and Google maps typically finds faster and shorter routes that are still gas efficient. The benefit is obviously works on GPS so if you lose cell tower connection, you still can get un-lost.

Not for Class A RV if you want to actually use it safely.
Do not get this device if you have a class A. It will only mount to the windshield and the display can not be flipped.

    Garmin can do better
I’m a huge fan of Garmin products. I own Garmin watches, InReach and an Edge. All have worked flawlessly over the years. We purchased the RV795 for the RV “features” as well as always having navigation even when there’s no cell service. The RV 795 was fully updated prior to us starting the trip. Now the issues:1) In / near Denver the GPS suddenly gave a warning that RVs weren’t allowed on the current route. It offered no alternatives to route around whatever the issue was. We tried stopping the nav and starting over several times but with zero success (all while dealing with Denver traffic). We ended up going back to Google Maps, which worked flawlessly, to route through Denver then restarted the Garmin nav north of Denver. We still have no idea why it suddenly stopped. The only idea I have is there was a toll road which didn’t allow RVs (??) but even then it should have rerouted us around the issue. Why in the world did it pick a bad route in the first place?2) The next issue was it reported a closure for the interstate we were traveling on and proceeded to reroute us. We checked both Apple and Google Maps and neither was reporting any issues or closures. Thankfully we ignored Garmin and continued on our path using Google Maps and as expected the interstate was not closed. The Garmin was connected to my phone the entire time and the cell service was great so no excuses for bad information.3) Once again Garmin reported a closure for the US highway we were traveling on. This time it was much more concerning as there are only so many bridges across the Mississippi River. It did provide an alternative route, however, it added 1.5 hours to our drive. We pulled over and checked both Apple and Google Maps and neither showed any issues at all. We also checked the local DOT websites for closures and by all accounts the highway was open. The only closure we could find was about 100 miles past our destination and in another state. We continued on using Google Maps and as before the highway wasn’t closed. There are features on the RV795 which I love such as look ahead. We have no issues with the interface and hardware. It’s intuitive and easy to use.The problem is Garmin’s routing and traffic / road condition updates. I’m stunned that a Garmin product performed so poorly especially for a device at this price point. We’re returning it because it’s not reliable for its PRIMARY purpose of routing us from point A to B. The features we love just aren’t worth it when we still end up having to use Google Maps.
