Amazing subwoofer upgrade
I have been cobbling an upgraded audio system in my media room and purchased a couple of the SVS SB1000s to place in opposite corners of the room. It has been an amazing upgrade. Bass no longer comes from a single direction, it now mixes so much better with the speakers and fills the room. Going down to 20hz means the room is still rumbling well below what you can actually hear. It adds so much gravitas to movies and music. The app really the most amazing feature, getting it all just right fine tuning with so many different parameters. All in real time, and from the preferred listening position.Comparatively speaking, it is great value for money. You will be hard pressed to find a better proposition than what SVS offers with their subwoofer range. And this is just the the entry level product! So easy to install, and compatible with most systems, you really cant go wrong with this subwoofer.Having 2 subs also meant I didnt have to decide on whether to keep the grill on or off. They look amazing both ways, so I kept one on and one off. Beautiful.100% recommended.

Love it
Needed a sub for near field music listening, connected to Kanto YU4 bookshelf speakers. I went with the 1000 Pro due to its relatively small footprint since I essentially live and work in a shoebox. Otherwise, I probably would have gone with a large, ported sub. There are many ways to dial in the right sound, whether via the parametric EQ, volume, crossover filter, or your PC/amp EQ. It’s my first sub, and I’m impressed by how versatile it is. It can rumble, get punchy or boomy—whatever you’re into, basically. The app for iPhone is brilliant—the bluetooth connects seamlessly, and everything is completely controllable. Not once have I had to get on my hands and knees to fiddle with switches and knobs. The auto-on/off is a nice convenience, so there’s no need to power it up and down between listens. I use it mostly for EDM, and love the way this thing shakes.I’ve read a few reviews where people wrote they couldn’t really hear it. I’m not an audiophile, but IMHO everything is in the settings. I’m thinking maybe they had a wide Q factor envelope in the barely audible 20Hz region. I put most of the volume into the 100-150Hz region, with a narrow Q factor at higher volume than the third PEQ, which I layer toward the bottom for rumble. It can go full-on bone-rattling, and adjusting the Q envelope of three different EQ bands lets you sweep across frequencies for thicker sound or focus on a particular one. Each one has its own gain/volume so you can have fun layering everything. I use APO/Peace to sharpen up the punch and shelve certain frequencies. Again, I’m not trying to come off as an audio expert—I’m not! These are merely observations gleaned from playing around with the app, so my jargon might be inaccurate. The app is very easy to learn BTW. Not overwhelming in the least. Plus, there’s always ChatGPT (AKA, “my second brain”) to answer any tuning questions. As mentioned, I live in a tiny apartment, so I can’t tell you if it would be appropriate for larger spaces. One thing I’ve noted is the logarithmic volume falloff (inverse square law). Just a couple feet outside my speaker triangle is as if I turned down the volume by 50%. Sometimes I’m blasting a Boris Brejcha track at levels that sound like they violate the HOA, yet when I run to the kitchen the volume is moderate at best. The SB can go way higher than the volumes I crank, but the bottom line is that as a near-field listening speaker, the SB Pro is exactly what I was hoping for. This is a great first sub for me and it really does create an immersive music experience. SVS makes a quality product that was clearly well thought-out. Five stars.

Hits hard!
Update after 6-months: We later bought the ported PB-1000 for our home theater and love that choice in that room for movies. It is overkill (to us) for music, even hip-hop. Its cabinet is “sub”stantially larger than this SB-1000. So if you want something more compact, get the sealed version. If you want all-out rumble that will shake your couch, body, and the popcorn in your stomach, get the PB-1000.We love this sub! We have a home with three speaker systems – my office, the large family room/great room with a small TV, and the home theater with a projector. When we moved in, we were borrowing my 10 inch office sub for the family room. It was nice for music and movies. But once the SVS SB-1000 came, it was a HUGE upgrade in sound. The increased power and low-end reach was drastic. The cabinet is only about 25% larger, but the sound is 100% bigger.Naturally, we wanted to steal the SVS for use in the home theater too (until we get a dedicated system up there.) That room is carpeted, so it sucks up more of the depth of sound. But low frequency effects on movies, thunder, airplanes, bass drops, etc sound so good through the SVS. We plan to save up to buy one or two of the ported SVS subs for that room and leave this in the family room. The cabinet looks beautiful in black ash and doesn’t really show dust like the piano black finish would. The cabinet is durable and sturdy. The controls are difficult to see when the sub is in position, but that’s why they’ve created a wonderful app to control it. The app helps you dial in the volume, crossover frequency, etc. from your listening position and is very effective. The only surprise is that I assumed the app had a frequency analyzer or automatic settings, and it does not. The automatic on is a great feature. You know you’re saving power when not using the sub, but within about 10 seconds of playing music, the sub kicks in again. All in all, this sub is a great value for the money and will improve the enjoyment of your music and movies in most rooms. If you have a larger room or want the ultimate in power, go with a ported sub or a second sub. This item frequently went on sale in 2024. I have been watching it in 2025 and prices seem to be going up, not down, with the worldwide economic tarrifs. If you’re on the fence, buy this now.

I highly recommend this excellent subwoofer
This is a really excellent subwoofer. It sound fantastic and was very easy to setup. I love the app that comes with it that allows for adjusting the volume, phase, and frequency cutoff. It is plenty powerful and can easily go louder than I would every want.

I finally dropped the bomb on a sub replacement and there are no more words to say how great this sub sounds. I really wanted a sub that would work well with my tower speakers for 2 ch music as well as home theatre. My speaker respond down to 30Hz and my current sub would only go down to 32Hz. This being SVS’s entry level 12″ sub, it is far beyond any competition in price that hits as low as 20Hz, tight and as fast as it does. This sub immerses into your system seamlessly without drowning the room with bass. (Yes you can have bass overkill if that’s you thing) The wireless app feature is easy to use and simply the ultimate for fine tuning from your favourite seat. You can save 3 pre set settings for music, theatre and custom. Using these settings in dramatic fashion will allow you to feel & hear the incredible audio from such a compact unit……Simply can’t be beat.

I like the control of several parameters via software app. This gives a lot of control at your fingertips. I downloaded RAW software and bought its recommended calibrated microphone. Now I am experimenting to optimize the sound.Being a sealed subwoofer, the output is short tailed and controlled. The power is sufficient. Not fancy as the KEF’s but very competitively priced.

I was a little wary of diving into subwoofer world, as I don’t want to play bulging movie soundtracks through it, but extend the bass response of my hi-fi speakers (floor-standing Mission 763s from the 1990s).This compact little unit (just over a foot cubed) tucks neatly out of the way, but effortlessly adds just the right amount of bass in my ~5m x 4m living room. The SVS app (free to download from Apple and Android/Google Play stores) is great, enabling the cutover frequency to be set (so the subwoofer doesn’t end up doubling the bass from your existing speakers and thus causing a boomy sound). It has so many parameters that can be adjusted but, as the very helpful SVS support engineer said, “Trust your ears”. When you do that, it’s quite straightforward to get it sounding really good.Perfect for classical, rock, synth-pop… you name it (including heavy metal, hard rock… or so I’m told – not my thing personally). What really won me over pre-purchase was the statement in the brochure for the SB-1000 Pro: “The subwoofer should add to the sound without unnecessarily drawing attention to itself”. Just what I wanted, and just what the SB-1000 Pro does!
