Reviewing audio stuff is hard! Everyone’s ear is different. Everyone’s taste in sound is different. Everyone listens to different genres etc. Other people have gotten all technical on this guy, so no reason for me to do that. So that said …. here’s what I would want to know, now that I own it, if I was contemplating buying it again. Why so long? So you can understand where I’m coming from and triangulate that with your own expectations from this sub.Sound quantity fist. For a 6.5″ it is makes some pretty low sounds. It makes quite a lot of such, actually – it surprised me. In a large room, like 20×20, I imagine it will get dwarfed if you have large mains. But why would you do THAT!! I have a couple 12″ subs for those rooms. So for what one would get a 6.5″ (or other small – <10") sub for, like pairing with 4" bookshelf speakers, this one makes plenty of noise for me. I have it nearly turned all the way down in my 10x10 home office. It's playmates include some Micca MB42x, all currently running off a little (surprisingly good-for-the-price) Douk tube amp. Basic "office" bottom-dollar-almost-but-not-quite-audiophile sort of setup.Now for the sound quality. Hmmm. This is where this sub gets interesting.First ... As for taste in sound. In all above genres I personally want a sub to add texture and support at the low end, not MAKE music. Mains make the music, sub supports. I'm not a basshead - I don't want to get whacked upside the head with da bass when listening to music. I don't mind rumble and thump - with some genres it's not bad - and with movies it's important. It just doesn't excite me in music. I love pure, clean, expansive, enveloping, textured and realistic sound. I knew a <$60 sub wouldn't get me that ... and you know what? What this little guy does is actually pretty good for what he is.For something with driving bass, like rock - Van Halen, Bon jovi, Metallica, Extreme ... it pounds and rumbles (for it's size, of course). For rock, movies, and pop music, in my small-ish room - no complaints. Plenty of power. Plenty of sound. Fills in nicely. Moving on to jazz and acoustic, things where precision of sound becomes important, it starts getting a little weird. It's a touch muddy. At low volumes, it sounds like it can't figure out whether to hit or not, likes its wavering between making noise and being quiet. The sounds sort of 'pop' in and out rather than roll in and out smoothly with the instrument. It isn't jarring, though, just not quite right. It just sounded a bit off, wasn't sure why ... I got right up to the sub, then put my ear down near it, then lightly felt under it to it figure it out. Really, if it took that, it's little gripe. But in audio, sometimes little gripes grind on you. If you crank the power up a bit, this doesn't seem to happen and the attack is better. However, when you do this, the bass is out of balance and the sound gets thumpy, muddies the overall sound of the music slightly, and no longer seems "real," like how it would sound if that blues band was right in front of me, live. But I can adjust this sub to round out the sound a bit without overdoing it and if I'm not 'critically listening,' when I'm doing other tasks in the office, the attack thing doesn't bother me too much. When I move to classical, this nice little sub does fall down. Listening to chanson, or traditional asian music, it really doesn't add anything (except a VERY faint hum) ... whereas when I go listen to the same song on my system in the den (Klipsch reference series all the way around, 12" sub) that sub does add just a touch of texture to, say, the reverberating sounds recorded in a cathedral. Nothing bad, this Bestian is just not adding anything. Moving on to instrumental/orchestral, no matter how hard I try to monkey with the controls, I can't get it to fill in the low textures without getting muddy and/or overwhelming the rest of the sound. Like a cello has deep reverberations that the 4" MIcca, nice as they are, just can't do anything with. Using this sub to round them out, it makes noise when that cello hits ... but is that really what a cello sounds like??? naaah. Turning up the volume/power, with the "crossover" up, it overruns the delicate textures of the low midrange and as you turn the crossover down, it still slightly muddies the overall sound in the room a touch but ends up with a "gap" in the bass between the 4" Miccas and the sub. If I turn volume/power down really low with the crossover set "right" again, it sort of fills in and helps with the cello and actually does add some texture and structure, but again, at low power is when it's attack is off and instead of rolling in and out with the stroke of the bow on the strings, it sort of jabs sounds at me. Annoying. I don't like being jabbed at by speakers. However, again, this is a 6.5" sub!!! And I paid <$60 on a sale. SOOOO... is there anything else i have heard or can even imagine that sounds better in THIS small a unit (that I can easily stuff under the desk) and buy THIS cheap? Nope. So, for what it is, and for what I paid, I can forgive these flaws that come from my nitpicking.So for rock/pop/movies ... anything with a synthesized or electronic sound, with thump or pounding bass, this guy, while less "good" than my expensive bigger subs, it sounds surprising closer to them, certainly better than I expected. As above, it struggles a tad at low volumes, but does better from mid to high volume - where you'd be if listening to these! If that is your thing, I imagine, again, within room size limitations, this sub will not disappoint. If you are into jazz, acoustic, or vocal stuff, and you lean toward the 'critical listening' side, you may want to get a "real" 10" or larger sub ... and pay 5-10x or more what I paid for this Bestian. Don't get this if your main use will be listening to classical music and you want clarity and realism. (but then, if that is your gig, you probably already know that and aren't even looking at this sub; you know you are going to lay out minimum $500-1000 on the sub... and it may be passive at that price so you throw a few hundred more at the amp!).So ... yeah ... easy 4 stars from me at this price point. If at $100 or over, this would drop to a 3 star sub as you are getting into the $$ range, or close to it, of some bigger, better options. Why not 5-star for value? I like this guy ... but 5 star for audio has to make me slobber on myself, or at least sit happily in my chair and forget about life. This sub is, IMHO, a good value for what it is ... but didn't do that. I would still recommend this to buyers looking for a small-sized, inexpensive sub for whom it's limitations as I described are acceptable.

Complete Garbage – Consistently stops working after a few minutes
I have had this subwoofer for about 10 months and since I first started using it, it consistently stops working (i.e. stops producing any bass) after a variable period of time playing music. Sometimes it works for 10+ minutes, sometimes for less than 5, but it always stops working. A quick power cycle using the power switch restores its normal functionality for a period of time – but this is of course not how it is supposed to work. I suspect that some component in the built-in amplifier is overheating or otherwise malfunctioning causing this behavior but have not taken any time to really troubleshoot the issue.Long story short – this is a cheap subwoofer, and you almost get what you pay for with it. If it consistently worked for even the duration of a normal album (60 minutes) I might give it two or three stars, but as it stands, it essentially a waste of space, power and possibly a fire hazard (though I have no direct evidence to support this supposition other than the described behavior).

This little speaker has punch, good value for money paid. Has some rumble to it
