Garmin model that frequently reboots during searching
Not the typical quality you expect from Garmin on this one, Zumo 396. Many of these, ( I have had 2) will start to lockup and reboot when doing a typed search function. But, never give the search result. GARMIN is fully aware of the problem, but as the unit is no longer in production there is no fix. My most recent one is only a few months old and started doing it. Under warranty, GARMIN is at least giving me full retail value in on trade on a newer model Zumo XT2. Even though a great value, dont waste your time on this one if you wat reliability for more than just a few months. MY first one was new from Garmin, this one was a refurbished. GARMIN stated the refurbished units rarely showed the problem. Not true in my case.

Uhhh. Getting there….
Kept resetting after power on. Battery lasted 20 mins. Started return process. Updated firmware and software. Resetting issue reolved. Battery seems better. Watching YT videos to learn basecamp. Couldn’t or wouldn’t use it w/o independent YT reviewers providing info n tips on basecamp software. I now have several routes mapped and saved on my pc. I have till May 2026 to complete return. Will update progress or lack thereof. Using on my Kawasaki ZG1400C Concours

Bought for hubby as a valentines gift, he was so surprised and loves it! The only thing it’s really missing that another brand/model had was the satellite phone capability. One more thing to mention, that has been said before-the instructions are a joke haha but it’s easy enough to figure out, what guy reads instructions anyway?! Amirite 😉

Painfully Slow to respond – does not conform to the automotive version.
I have used Garmin GPS for over 15 years. I have purchased several models and each worked as expected until this model. I returned the first unit received as I felt it was faulty. The replacement unit was just as slow and cumbersome as the first. I tried using it during my trip and had to pull out an older model Garmin to finish the trip. This took me places that were just wrong. I may try their more expensive model of ZUMO but their reputation has been tarnished with my experience using this lower priced model. If you are going to offer a lower cost model it still needs to work properly.
