Soundbar without compromises
I’m an audiophile and a home theater enthusiast. My home theater setup is a custom Atmos system. Usually, I don’t look into soundbars, but this Sony Bravia Home Theater 5 caught my attention. If you’re looking for a clean setup for your living room with a subwoofer, this is your best bet.The setup is incredibly easy. It comes with power cords, a soundbar, a subwoofer, and a remote. I highly recommend using the smartphone app to follow the setup prompts. This allows you to fine-tune the sound using the remote app instead of using the remote itself. The soundbar is straightforward. Connect the HDMI cord (highly recommended) to your TV’s eARC port and the other end to the soundbar. The HDMI cord is not included. If you don’t have eARC support, you can also use an optical input. EARC or enhanced audio return channel allows your TV to take full control of the soundbar, such as turning it on or off or adjusting the volume with a single remote. It also provides the highest quality audio signal to the soundbar. The sound quality is fantastic compared to the TV’s original speakers (of course) or other soundbars in the same price range. It replaced my old Samsung soundbar system. The vocal clarity is significantly improved, and you can clearly hear the dialogue. The simulated surround sound is great – it’s not as immersive as a dedicated system, but it’s still there. For the price, sound quality and build quality reflects the cost. Furthermore, it’s a Sony product – high quality and value without too much compromise.Typical sound bar users prefer a clean and simple setup for their homes. The treble tones are crisp, and the bass is adequate. I used the app to fine-tune the equalizer and settings. Again, use the app!The remote provided is simple and allows for easy changes. There’s no screen on the soundbar, only indicator lights. The app is crucial for fine-tuning settings and customizing the sound. The built-in Bluetooth function also allows for music streaming. The home theater system looks great – it has a simple black casing and a non-descriptive design. It’s not intrusive in the home and blends in well. The subwoofer casing is made of MDF wood and is solid, so you won’t hear any cheap rattling noises or poor-quality sound. This is a great home theater system for families because it’s easy to use and set up, and most importantly, it sounds good.

Excellent soundbar for midsize room
I was extremely satisfied with the sound of this Bravia soundbar. I was looking for a soundbar to use in our outdoor movie area, and this soundbar is perfect! It gets plenty loud, and the sound quality is really good. It goes without saying that it’s not going to beat a true 5.1 surround sound system, but those aren’t usable everywhere, and soundbars have a pretty large user base. The audio is crisp, with a decent amount of bass. The bass can be a touch on the “muddy” side in my opinion…it’s certainly not bad, and it gets the job done. The fact that it’s wireless is a huge plus…I really love that more and more soundbars are coming with a wireless sub that you can put anywhere in range. Makes it easy to tuck behind a couch or something. My one complaint with the system is relatively minor, but should have been thought through in the design process. There’s no screen or colored LED’s to let you know which sound mode you’re on. The remote comes with a few options such as sound field, voice, and night, and some of them can be on at the same time, but you have no idea what mode you’re in unless you download the Bravia app and connect to your phone. As soon as you pair to a different device (I have it paired to a Fire TV stick hooked into my outdoor projector) you can’t see on the app any more, so that’s a little rough. Even Visio sound bars have a series of LED lights along the side that move up/down for volume. I’d like to see either a simple display or at least some LED’s in a future model, but other than that, this is an excellent soundbar.

Great sound from this soundbar. Sub hits pretty good.
I purchased this Sony soundbar to replace an older BOSE soundbar setup and it has been really solid overall. Setup was straightforward. I connected the soundbar using an optical cable instead of HDMI, and everything worked right away without any issues. The Bluetooth connection to the subwoofer was incredibly easy and it paired on the first try and has stayed connected without any dropouts. The sound quality is excellent, and to my ears it’s actually better than the Bose soundbar I was using previously. The audio feels fuller and clearer, with a noticeable improvement in both dialogue and overall depth. The Android app works very well and is very responsive, which makes controlling the soundbar simple. While the included remote works just fine, you definitely get more control and flexibility through the app, so that’s what I tend to use most of the time. |Pairing other Bluetooth devices is also quick and easy, but there’s an interesting quirk worth noting. It appears that Bluetooth pairing is handled through the phone app, which may act as a bridge between the device and the soundbar. For example, I paired a Bluetooth record player to the soundbar through the app, and when I walked outside with my phone, the connection dropped. That leads me to believe the phone is acting as a bridge, so if your phone goes out of range, the audio may stop. The Sony soundbar has strong sound quality, easy setup, and a very user-friendly app. Just be aware of how Bluetooth pairing works through the app especially if you plan to use external Bluetooth devices regularly.
