ZWave repeater

zwave repeater, range extender and amplifier zwave repeater, range extender and amplifier

You use Z-Wave to manage your smart home. You use Range Extender 7 to keep Z-Wave reliable. Aeotec Range Extender 7 works seamlessly to amplify and repeat weak Z-Wave and Z-Wave Plus signals. Simply plug it into a power socket, connect it to your Z-Wave network, and it automatically starts improving any poor Z-Wave signals that are in range. Built upon Aeotec proprietary Gen7 hardware and firmware stack, it has a wireless range that’s up to 250% greater than Range Extender 6 and non Gen7 technology. Designed with 700 series and Z-Wave Plus V2, Range Extender 7 also repeats S2 security signals. 1. Dad, the engineer

Great for improving the speed and reliability of your Z-Wave mesh (see details). Highly Recommended
At the time that I automated my last home with Z-Wave, my two largest problems were the limited range of 1st-generation Z-Wave devices, and the relatively shallow utility boxes in my walls. My house was physically large (and spread out), so I put over 100 devices in the home in order to have a reliable mesh network. When I moved into my current home, my challenges were very different. This house was originally constructed in the 1960s, and it consists of 3 floors and two add-ons. The core of the house is not wired with neutrals at the light switches (ugh). As such, I have not been as inclined to put as many switches in, as I’ve needed to use units that don’t require neutral (or add in resistor packs). The answer to build a reliable network was to add Aeotec Range Extender 7s.I’m no stranger to Aeotec, having bought sensors, plugs, and various other peripherals from them over the years. When I wanted to get repeaters for this house, I naturally thought of Aeotec Range Extender 7s. The units are a little different from my older repeaters as the inclusion button is on the bottom. The light is a ring around the button. Inclusion was quick and painless with my Homeseer HS4Pro installation. a few full optimizations later, and the garage door opener and smart deadbolt started reporting immediately and reliably. Mission accomplished. The only gripe I really have is the presence of the screw hole “loop”. I get the idea: it’s meant to allow you to semi-permanently attach your repeater, keeping anyone from inadvertently unplugging it. In practice, though, it can act as an obstruction, making an outlet harder to use. Lest you think you’ll just put the repeater on the top outlet, you’ll find out quickly that it covers part of the lower outlet. You can tear off the loop with some pliers, but it would be nicer if there was some non-destructive alternative.Final thoughts? There’s no ARGB, as in previous iterations of the product. That’s fine with me, as I never used it, anyway. I guess the main question would be why you would use a repeater, as opposed to spending basically the same money (or less), to get a lamp control module. My answer to that is simplicity and aesthetics. This iteration of the Aeotec Range Extender may be a little more stripped-down, but it’s more attractive (though that’s subjective), and it’s more useful. The new utility comes in the form of the down-firing light ring… it basically functions as a low-intensity night light. Don’t want that? Turn it off with a single click – no need to mess with sending Z-Wave parameters.Though I wish the 2-pack had been available at the time I needed these, at $34 each it wasn’t that bad to get the repeaters that I needed. If you need a stronger/better/faster Z-Wave network (especially when it comes to battery-powered sensors/devices), these will work well for you. For those of you that may be wondering, my setup includes 300, 500, and 700 series Z-Wave devices, and this seems to work well with all of them. It properly registers all of its neighbors and routes, regardless of protocol generation, and it passes “secure” S2 messages without issue. Highly Recommended

Aeotech Range Extender 7 – fixed connectivity problem to the Ring Alarm base for a deadzone.
This is somewhat pricey compared to the standard Ring Alarm range extender. But I thought I would try it anyway as the other reviews were pretty positive, and it appears to be compatible with the Ring Alarm system. The extender was going in an area where the Ring sensors only worked intermittently with the base station, and usually showed as waiting connection or other unhappy status message.I scanned and added this extender to the Ring setup, plugged it in, and the flaky sensor was immediately online and working as expected. The connectivity and range seems solid. Worth the extra cost to get the reliability.

    Easy setup
I purchased the device to handle communication between alarm panel and door lock as the distance was causing issues. Alarm panel immediately recognized the repeater and communication with the door lock was restored. Response time is very quick between devices. Setup was a breeze.

    Helps keep my devices connected
I have a set of outdoor lights connected to an outlet housed in a waterproof box. Before buying this extender I would say about 50 percent of the time it wouldnt respond to commands. With the extender it’s become MUCH more reliable. That said I do find that some of my other devices don’t appear to be using it and still have connection issues. Also it has a light that can be annoying in the dark, but double pressing the action button will disable it

Perfect line of sight, said connected but had zero additional range over not having it at all.
I had an old unbranded contact sensor. I was about 10 feet from where I wanted to setup a button for a christmas display. I bought this, plugged it in at an outlet outside, about 25 feet from my hub.. It connected no problem at this location. I had direct line of sight, and my contact sensor had zero additional range. I bought the 50$ window/door sensor from them. Once again it was no better than my old unbranded sensor I paid maybe 20$ for.

Extended Qolsys IQ Panel Z-wave range
The product functions precisely as advertised, significantly enhancing Z-Wave coverage when connected to the Brinks Qolsys IQ 2 panel, particularly in areas previously out of range. The installation instructions provided were straightforward, with additional panel pairing guidance readily available online. It is crucial to note that this device does not come with support from alarm service providers; therefore, users must be prepared to handle installation, troubleshooting, and application independently. This product is not recommended for beginners or those lacking technical confidence. However, for technically adept individuals or “adventurous nerds,” this represents a valuable investment. It not only extends the reach of your home automation system but also empowers users to expand their system’s capabilities beyond standard offerings.

Worked well for home alarm system – extending battery life in smart locks
My smart locks were eating batteries because the Z-wave communication does a lot of polling, creating a “mesh” network where every lock tries to connect in a network to every nearby lock. This is a good thing in Z-wave, but all the communication can eat the battery life of these smart locks that also act as repeaters — especially when they are further from the Z-wave controller (alarm panel in this case). The lock near the control panel has battery that lasts a long time because it doesn’t have to transmit much power. I put a couple of these in-between my control panel and the locks, adding them manually to the network. All of the sudden my battery life in the more distant locks went from about a week to a couple months. Yes! It can be difficult to connect any Z-wave device to the controller, so keep trying.

The device pairs easily with a Smartthings Hub. I’ve purchased 2 devices. One will often go off-line requiring a deletion and a re-pairing to the hub. My last device seems to be working better and certainly did help with signal strength to my more distance z-wave devices.
