Kinda Pricey for Basic Features, Decent Sound, but will it last 15 years?
$228, Sony HT-S400 2.1ch Soundbar with Powerful Wireless subwoofer, S-Force PRO Front Surround Sound, and Dolby Digital, BlackPros:- Decent bass and separate adjustability for the bass- ARC connectivity integrates well with Sony TV; Cable NOT included– Sony TV remote controls the system audio; no programming needed; be sure to set the TV to external audio– Has Optical inputs in case I ever need it- Volume goes from 0 to 100- White LED is not overly bright- Bluetooth connectivity is straight forward- Came with Batteries for the remoteCons:- Model has been around since 2022 and does not include eARC, but you won’t need it with only 2.1 channels- Fairly steep price for limited capability such as lack of surround soundI’m connecting to a 2010 Sony Bravia 1080 TV with ARC connectivity. Sounds decent with streaming services via Playstation 4. Bluetooth connects easily and sound reasonable. I don’t pay for the upgraded streaming plans, so no point in paying extra money to get Dolby Digital Plus (or 4K). But, surround sound features can be had from other manufactures at this price point. This sounds punchier and fuller than my 2010 Polk Audio Surroundbar 3000, which is still going strong. If this system can last 15 years, then I feel I will have gotten my money’s worth. Try to get it on sale; don’t may over $228

Living room turned home theater
I love this sound bar. I have it hooked up to a Sony tv using an HDMI ARC cable and the compatibility is amazing. One of the things I looked for in a sound bar is clear audios, especially for movies that the music overpowers the dialogue. There are times where it feels like the sound is a little cheap but I want to blame that more on what I’m watching/playing. Otherwise, the sound is so crisp my neighbors could watch my TV from my window and still hear everything if I have it loud enough. I’ve only had an issue with connectivity once but it was an easy fix once you get to know the system; a short nuisance if anything. I barely use the remote control since I control everything from my TV remote, but I do find it nice that I can use the sound bar remote to adjust the bass. I did get the speaker on sale, but I feel like it’s been worth every penny so far.

Pretty Good for Full Price, Great for Amazon Warehouse Price
I looked at a lesser version of this at Costco that wasn’t much cheaper and didn’t get very good reviews. This item was a little more expensive, but had great reviews. When there was an open box unit available at Amazon Warehouse for less than half of the regular price, I ordered it immediately. Set up was pretty easy, though the open box unit was missing the optical cable that was supposed to be included. Once it was all hooked up and the setting changed within the TV, it worked just fine. It turns on/off when the TV does, and the regular volume controls for the TV remote control it as well. After the initial setup, I haven’t needed the included remote control. The sound is certainly an upgrade from the regular TV speakers, and the bass can thump pretty hard when asked to. Does it sound as good as a higher end unit, of course not, but it’s fine for daily use in our family room. Two little gripes. The volume is slow to respond…it takes holding the volume button down for a bit to get it have any noticeable change in the volume. Also, there is some weird “feature” that if the volume is pressed too many times in a row quickly, the volume will go up to max or min (depending) all on its own…which can be deafening. I should probably read the manual about this… Anyway, for the warehouse price, I’m thrilled with this purchase.

Worth every penny
I originally bought a TCL sound bar that didn’t work out so well, I decided to spend a bit more and get this one. My dad has a Sony sound bar and sub for a few years now . It’s the model below this one and he’s never had a problem with it. This sound bar does offer Bluetooth but I decided to run an optical connection instead. I have it connected to my BenQ Ht 3550 projector that doesn’t have the ARC HDMI. The optical input works just fine. I love the remote because it allows you to play with different sounds and it also allows you to adjust the bass which is very nice also. I think it sounds great and would fit a rather large living room as mine does. I can’t turn it up all the way . It does get very loud and the bass thumps . I do have a Klipsch 9.1 but it’s in storage and this is much easier to set up and take down when I’m ready to change.

Low quality product.
The system had problems from the very beginning. You might assume it’s because it was hooked up to another brand of TV, but that’s not the case. It’s connected to a Sony TV and a Sony Blu‑ray player (which also constantly had issues). The soundbar keeps kicking you into some alternate sound‑field mode—something you’d never want to use in the first place. Every time you change inputs or pause a movie, the audio becomes spotty. And after two years, the subwoofer died. The whole thing is just junk. The sound quality itself is fine, but the product overall is garbage.

Works great for me
After using the basic little speakers on my Sony Bravia TV for quite some time this was a very welcome upgrade. It works very well for my small bedroom gaming/movie watching set up, just the right size. Sound quality is awesome especially with the quality sub woofer that comes along with the bar. Very easy to setup basically plug and play. I’d recommend it to a person whose looking for quality that isn’t really expensive

It’s an excellent sound system with Sony’s crisp clear sound quality and high quality built and materials. While it’s not a full theater sound system and does not provide a full theater surround system experience, it still is a huge step up from the TV speakers. It doesn’t give a huge “wow” factor but it does a great job providing a crisp clear sound. The bass is not over bloated and is smooth, which is great for watching the movies. It’s ok for listening to the music but it’s not what it is designed for.The TV used to pair this soundbar with is Sony Bravia XR X90K. I tried to use Bluetooth connection, which was immediately recognized by both devices and the sound quality was good with no delays or whatsoever. Also, tried with an 8K UHD ARC HDMI certified high quality cable through an eARC port on TV. The TV immediately recognized that there is a Sony Soundbar connected and offered to complete a setup. The bass lines do sound slightly crispier through the cable but the difference between BT and HDMI is hardly any noticeable.
